Gawcott & Hillesden cricketers have raised £550.00 for the Milton Keynes Hospital Charity after walking a combined total of 305.04 miles.
Skipper Alex Piggott explained to Sports Shots how the initial idea came about.
The whole idea came from when myself and Colin (Alex’s brother) went out for our daily exercise one Thursday evening, when everyone was clapping for the NHS. I asked him if he thought there was anything the cricket club could do to raise money. We wanted to do something that challenged us, but it had to be something we could do if no one else took part.
I went back and suggested our idea to a couple of other guys, who thought it was a great idea, and they were up for it, and the reaction was the same when it was discussed on the club’s What’s App group.
The aim was to walk to all the grounds in the league that Gawcott & Hillesden play in, which, in total was 211.7 miles, 340.64 kilometres but they walked 305.04 miles, 490.91 kilometres.
A JustGiving page for the walk was set up with a target of £200.00 set.
The total was soon surpassed as players donated their annual club subscriptions fees, plus other donations were made.
With each player walking and giving their updates via tracking apps, the target was reached with a fantastic total of £550.00 donated to the charity.
The Milton Keynes Hospital Trust placed their thanks on Twitter for the club’s efforts.
