Eliot Callis has previewed the opening NCCA One Day Trophy tie as Bucks play host to Wales NC on Sunday.
The Bucks opener spoke to Sports Shots as the competitive NCCA season starts at High Wycombe Cricket Club, where Callis ply’s his trade.
Having come through the Yorkshire system, Callis made his Yorkshire First-Class debut in June 2016 where he made 84 and an unbeaten 30 against Pakistan ‘A’. The batsman has also featured for the MCC Young Cricketers, Surrey 2nd XI and Bedfordshire. Such experience will be vital at the top of the order for Bucks.
Callis was pleased to win the Nurton-York Trophy tie against Oxfordshire.
It was a good win at the weekend. They had the better of us last year, so in our first game of competitive cricket it was good to get a win.
It has been a difficult and much different year as players have attempted to prepare under Covid-19 guidelines.
Pre-season has been a challenge. We started well in April with High Wycombe and with Bucks, but to then have a stalled start to the season has been frustrating, including the cancellation of the NCCA T20 competition.
On a personal note I have still been lucky to access to the likes of Cam Parsons helping with my batting week in week out to keep me ticking over.
This weekend sees Callis and his Bucks team mates welcome Wales NC for the 50-over competition opener.
We are looking forward to a good run with 50-over competition, and hopefully sort out my work in order for me to play in a few three day games as well. Wales will be a strong team so it would be good to put a bit of a statement out.
Callis will no doubt come across a few familiar faces on the circuit.
With regards to past team mates, it was good to play against Jack Brooks last year and I am sure a few more old faces will pop up throughout the matches.
It has been very stop-start for High Wycombe as the elements has been an additional opponent.
The club season has started slow, it has been disappointing weather so far. We were excellent against Datchet, but we need to get playing some games soon as we can’t afford to keep dropping points because of not playing.
With some good weather finally forecast, Callis is looking to making hay while the sun shines.
From the pre-season I felt in good touch and was moving well. I feel if I can provide some consistency at the start of our innings it helps set the tone for both club and county.
Sports Shots would like to thank to Eliot for giving us his time.
