Peter Young unbeaten 81 see’s Town home
Great Horwood CC – 160 all out off 38 overs
Olney Town CC – 161 for 3 off 36.3 overs
Great Horwood were beaten for the first time this season on Saturday as their top versus second clash against Olney Town went the way of the visitors, the hosts winning the toss elected to bat first and set their guests a target of 161 for victory which they reached fairly comfortably for the loss of just three wickets, Peter Young carrying the bat for his side as he ended the afternoon 81 not out.
On an afternoon of broken cloud & warm sunshine the hosts lost their skipper Stuart Parker early on, but fellow opener Sam Willett alongside new batsman Dale Armitage steadied the ship until the latter was caught off the bowling of David Livermore. After Willett was trapped leg before with his score on 31 Glynn Davies paired up with Tom North to take the fight to Olney but Iain Keeping brought into the attack took five successive wickets, Oli Knowles catching both batsmen with their scores on 31 & 29, respectively. Mudassar Ansari came to the crease and looked in form until an attempted boundary could only find the waiting hands of Hamish Bull, the remaining wickets fell cheaply except Chris McStraw who made 16 before having his bails removed by Stuart Keeping.
For 160 to be a difficult target Horwood needed wickets, and were bang on target when Adam Armitage bowled Hamish Bull in the opening over, however from there opener Young was joined at the crease by Patrick Bull and the pair put on over one hundred runs to swing the game in their favour. Young surpassed his half century and there was a brief interruption in the Olney run chase as Ansari took two quick wickets, but Ollie Betteridge alongside Young saw their side home with three and a half overs to spare.
