New Bradwell St Peter Ladies reached the quarterfinals of the Berks & Bucks FA Women’s Senior Cup with victory over local rivals Newport Pagnell Town, three down by the break gave the Swans a mountain to climb from which they never really recovered.
Cara Brooker once again proving a handful and bagging a brace before a thumping Kelly Evans header put the hosts in command during the opening forty-five, the ever-impressive Jasmine Spence pulled one back on the hour however it proved a mere consolation as further chances went begging.
The hosts opened the scoring on twelve minutes when a Town attack broke down and Lucy Hopper pounced, threading her pass through the away backline for Brooker to advance to the edge of the area from where she opened up her body to bend around Newport keeper Laura Beevor.
Hesitancy at the back then cost the East Midlands Regional League leaders dear, a long punt upfield saw keeper & defender allow the ball to bounce which gave Brooker all the invitation needed to wrap her foot around & lift into the back of the net.
Despite the setback Newport dug in and enjoyed some lengthy possession only to concede a late sucker punch third just before the break, a Hopper corner from the right met by skipper Evans whose header crashed in off the underside of the crossbar.
After the interval the visitors took the game to their hosts and pulled one back on the hour when Kirsty Walker released down the left picked out the incoming Spence who despite being sandwiched between keeper and defender managed to steer home.
From there Bradwell had plenty of defending to do, Spence going close soon after as she cut into the box and forced home keeper Shayla Burgess down low to push onto her own post and out for a corner, moments later at the opposite end Beevor was matching her counterpart’s endeavour.
A quick counter attack released Megan Smart down the wing in acres of space, she crossed into Brooker whose fierce drive had the keeper finger tipping over the bar, in added on time Spence, from some distance, once again forced Burgess into another good save. F/T: 3-1
