Buckingham Town 1st XI captain Adam King has discussed his side as they prepare for life in the Home Counties Premier League, Division Two.
King replaced Ewan Cox in the role at the start of the 2023 season and led his side to a fourth-placed finish in the Home Counties Premier League, Division Two. Town recorded seven wins over the summer.
The former Northants wicketkeeper-batsman spoke of his first season in charge of the Bourton Road club.
We were a little disappointed as we felt we had the team to go up, but a slow start, and some games we should have won impacted our chances, but to lose so many home games to the weather was the big issue.
The Town skipper has been pleased how their league plans have gone.
Preparations have gone well with winter nets.
A few of the squad have moved on, so we have recruited to fill those positions.
We have added Daniel Blacktopp a top order batsmen from Harpenden, he has wealth of experience and was a successful captain of Welwyn for many years as well as playing for Hertfordshire.
Also Dylan Van Westhuizen joins from Welwyn. Dylan is an exciting young opening batsmen.
Our Overseas signing is Jono Tuffin, a seam bowling all-rounder from New Zealand.
In the spin department we have a couple of new additions Rahil Zaman, who previously played for Tring Park and Ealing, and Ishan Sabharwal from Beckenham.
Town have a number of promising young players, but a one stands out.
We have a young squad, so hopefully all of them will have a good season. Jake Tarling, who is in the Bucks squad and also playing for Leicestershire 2s is definitely one to look out for.
There is one aim for the 2024 season for King and Town.
We of course want to gain promotion back to Division 1.
Town’s other captains for the season are: Joe Clark (2nd XI), Richard Pengelly (3rd XI), Dane Tuttlebee (4th XI), Adrian Johnson (Midweek) and Adrian Freeman (Sunday).
