Tom Hampton has given his thoughts on Bucks Cricket Men’s 1st XI ahead of their NCCA T20 curtain-raiser.
Thoughts on pre-season?
Pre season has been great. We had two brilliant training sessions at Wormsley to kick us off and followed that with two days of double T20 games. Firstly against Oxfordshire winning one out of two, and then Herefordshire last weekend where we managed to grab a rare double victory. Probably most pleasing was that during the four games is that everyone’s contributed and put in performances. To get 4 days on grass given the weather we have had is testament to all the groundsmen involved, and I thank them all for all their efforts. Hopefully it can help us hit the ground running this weekend.
Thoughts on the squad and new players?
The squad seems in a great place, it’s a tight group who get on well and enjoy playing for each other. We have added a couple of guys to the squad in Billy (Mead) and Cam (Cameron Hemp) and we are really excited to see how they go for the county. Both players bring quality and are exciting players who will add some depth and competition to the batting unit.
The squad is in a good place and have had a taste of success at the end of last season, and are desperate for more. So hopefully we can put in some good performances and continue to build on the progress we have made over the past few summers.
Thoughts on T20 campaign?
The T20 competition is one that we have struggled in over the last couple of years. So the main focus is to try to start well and add some consistency to our performances. The talent in the squad is there but we need to take it game by game and not get ahead of ourselves. It’s a tough group and the new format means the first 3 games come thick, and fast playing all 6 games in 8 days. So we will have to be at our best from game one.
