Easington Sports were beaten in their final game of the season and with it lost out on winning the Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League Division Two title, that after leading twice during this Oxfordshire local derby at Meadow View Park.
Shona Reid-Evans scored twice despite only managing to offer limited minutes due to a persistent injury, her contribution devastating for the visitors as she levelled in the first period, then bagged the winner with just under quarter of an hour remaining.
Eve Blake put Easington ahead early on & from there it looked a formality for the team in red & white to not only go on to win the match and the league but also extend their recent good run of results against their county rivals, but as they ran out of steam their opponents took full advantage.
There were initial chances at either end at the start, Dani Roberts drove wide for the visitors whilst Talia Mead lifted over the top for the hosts, but the deadlock was broken on fifteen as the blue & white shirts conceded possession allowing Blake to fire home from twenty yards out.
An equaliser almost arrived immediately as a Blake corner curled into the front post saw an attempted Sports clearance rebound off the woodwork, their next set piece resulted in a Frances Henderson shot being blocked with her subsequent follow up screwed off target.
But just past the half hour United drew level when Reid-Evans played through managed to net, although her excursions further agitated a leg injury meaning she was soon substituted back off the field, but from there her side enjoyed much more of the ball until the interval.
But moments after the break the championship hopefuls got their noses ahead again as Zoe Harrison managed to convert following a free kick that caused mayhem in front of goal, but that lead lasted barely ten minutes as Yasmin Williams bent inside the near upright albeit with a deflection.
Thame then managed to find a third as a cross from their left picked out Reid-Evans who manged to take control on her body before turning to fire home, there was a late chance for Blake to level but she could only lift over the bar, but it mattered not as they had to win to secure the title.
