Eynesbury Rovers were crowned UCL knock-out cup winners in May, denying Lincoln United the prospect of completing a treble of trophies for the season, Dan Hammer and Max Kimpton with a goal apiece in the first half enough to see the Huntingdonshire outfit to victory.
Having already won the Premier Division North title and the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy, the Whites were hoping to cap off an excellent season with yet another piece of silverware but found themselves up against a team in no mood to help extend their celebrations any further.
The double winners had plenty of opportunities during the ninety minutes however a determined red & black rearguard worked tirelessly to keep them at bay, whilst at the other end two chances were taken when they came along and that proved all that was needed.
The deadlock was broken early on when Lewis Lynn delivered a free kick from the right which after a few hasty attempts to clear fell to Oskar Ciach, he flashed across the face of goal & at the far post Hammer almost got in a tangle with himself before turning to stab home.
The white and red shirts huffed and puffed but could not find a way back into the game and fell further behind on the half hour when a strong Victor Osobu run into the box saw him feed Ciach whose shot was saved, but quickest to the rebound was Kimpton who rifled into the top corner.
After the interval Osobu netted again for his side however his joy short lived as the whistle sounded for a foul on Thomas Hipwell in the build-up, which eventually forced him to hobble off after trying to play on through the pain.
The Eynesbury striker went close again just past the hour mark, forcing United custodian Jack Steggles down at his near post to block, for Lincoln Jaime Ture got his head to a cross from the flank but was always underneath it and could only steer over the bar.
As the game ticked towards a close, Rovers won a penalty when Ciach was felled after connecting with an Osobu pull back, but after picking himself up off the floor he could only drive over the top, but it mattered not as the damage was already done. F/T: 0-2
