Actonians earn h-abiness after late win
Actonians Women – 1
A Kargbo 80’
Chesham United Women – 0
29th March 2026
Chesham United Women defended valiantly against Actonians for the majority of this game, even having a couple of chances of their own to take the lead, but when you are at the foot of the table with just one win all season, nothing goes your way!
A corner whipped in ten minutes from time saw a desperate claret & white shirt flick on but only as far as Abigail Kargbo in front of goal, from close distance she instinctively headed past Generals custodian Grace Amos and that was enough to seal all three points.
It was a rather chilly & overcast afternoon at Berkeley Fields with some patchy rain before and after the break which did little to help lift the temperature, the hosts were already guaranteed mid table safety whilst for their guests it was about blooding youngsters in the rebuild for next season.
It was those in blue & white who made all the early running, Mara Bramwell firing a twenty-yard free kick over the bar being the closest to an opener, but United gradually eased themselves upfield and themselves won a set piece within similar range, Jenny Nagle with the same end result.
Another home attack had the visitors struggling to clear their lines, from the edge of the area Vivien Ruettgers struck first time but again too high, Chesham’s best chance of the half came late on, Niamh Euman setting up Ruby Slade on the angle of the six-yard box to drive inches over the top.
Elsa Walker then fired a free kick straight at resident keeper Isabella Stevens-Mercado, after the interval Jennie Brereton saw an outstretched boot deny what looked a certain opener, their next cross then headed over by Olivia Clement.
Just as it seemed the blue onslaught may be all in vain, a fierce effort from Kargbo forced Amos into a flying save to earn warm applause from those around the pitch perimeter, but then from the resulting corner came the breakthrough to sink the hearts of those who had worked so hard.
There were still opportunities as the game ebbed towards a close, the goal scorer and Kayra Karakus fizzed shots wide, Bramwell fired straight into waiting gloves, whilst at the opposing end Nagle bent a set piece over the bar. F/T: 1-0
