Athletic on track for play-off push

7th April 2026
Harrogate Railway Athletic comfortably saw off Nostell Miners Welfare back in April on their way to the Northern Counties East Division One play-offs, two up at the break, and a third just after, sealing the points in a fairly routine win.
It took just ten minutes for the deadlock to be broken and from there it seemed inevitable the hosts would go on to record victory, but credit to those in amber & black who held out for another half an hour before conceding a second.
And once Ben Parkes added a third just after the interval the game really was done, the visitors from there seemed to come alive and had a couple of chances late on, the assistant referee’s flag did however save them from a greater margin of defeat on more than one occasion.
Nostell had the first chance of the contest when Cooper Hall broke in behind the red & green backline to fire a stinging effort over the top, but they were behind when a long throw from the left found Alex Ingham inside the six-yard box and he lifted into the roof of the net.
Sam Clothier twice discharged beyond the target before Ingham cleared the bar from close range, resident custodian Toby Wells denied Miners from halving the deficit with a strong wrist just past the half hour, but as the break loomed The Rail doubled their advantage.
A looping Sam Drake cross enabled Elliot Holmes to get between bodies and nod down into the far bottom corner, and it was three just five minutes after the interval as Ben Parkes threw himself at a knock on to head home, taking a blow to the face in the process.
Athletic continued to spurn chances but Welfare created a couple of their own, Lance Friedrich chasing a long lump forward saw the keeper advance forcing the lob from distance, which landed on top of the net rather than in it, Wells also producing a good flying save towards the end. F/T: 3-0
