Frampton United put in a professional performance at Tewkesbury Town back in April, defending when needed and taking their chances when they came along, goals half an hour into each period put them into a commanding position with a late Kris Bulley opportunist strike sealing the points.
At the end of the season these two clubs finished third and fourth respectively in the Gloucestershire County League table, but for inconsistent spells during their campaigns could surely have finished even higher.
The scoreline doesn’t really reflect the number of opportunities created during the afternoon, it was end-to-end for the majority however it was those in blue & white who made the most of theirs on a cloudy afternoon at Northway Playing Field.
The hosts were first to threaten when Alex Roder fired over from the edge of the arc, at the other end Bulley was always stretching to reach a cross from the left and in doing so could only help it continue its journey wide of the target.
Resident custodian Joe Poole had to fling an arm out to thwart Theo Browne on the counterattack, however on thirty minutes the deadlock was broken when skipper Dom Brown thumped a header in from a Manolo Marquez Espada delivery.
In first half injury time a ball over the United rearguard released Will Cottell who, noticing keeper Tom Kaye off his line, went for the long-range lob but his inaccuracy denied; the visitors almost increased their advantage moments after the break when a Marquez free kick had to be tipped over.
The resulting corner was cleared but quickly returned to the Town area, all appeared safe with the ball rolling out of play, that was until Browne chased it down, gained possession & cut infield only to be upended by Scott Nicholls, the official immediately pointing to the spot.
Espada took responsibility but was horrified to see Poole make the save; the yellow & blacks then used that impetuous to push on and thought they had levelled when Scott Jordan teed up Lorcan Sheehan who converted from six yards out only for a raised flag to spoil any celebrations.
Frampton went close again as Manolo curled a free kick beyond the reach of the home keeper only for it to rebound back off the woodwork, but their lead was eventually extended when Joe Spill escaped down the left and drilled inside the near post.
Straight from the restart the hosts had a couple of chances to reduce the deficit when an attempted clearance cannoned off a defender to leave Jamie Goodwin facing an unguarded net however he pulled wide, closely followed by Jordan volleying over the top.
Those misses were then punished even further when Bulley pounced on hesitation in the area to fire into the far corner; in the dying embers Kaye ensured his clean sheet stayed intact with a flying one handed save to deny Goodwin. F/T: 0-3
