Cadbury Athletic made it three successive home league wins with this victory over Birmingham United on May Bank Holiday Monday, although they were made to sweat after their guests halved a two-goal deficit with just under half an hour to play.
The team in pink could have been out of sight by the break, taking the lead after just twelve minutes propelled them to search for more, they had a second ruled out which in turn sparked the visitors into life, themselves going close when a post denied.
But when Cadbury doubled their advantage just after the interval it appeared all over, until Romano Graham gave hope when finishing a crisp passing move, the inevitable pressure for the finale saw chances go begging at both ends, but United slipped to a fourth league game in a row without a win.
The Chocolate Men broke the deadlock early when away keeper Connor Howe made a save from an initial header, but he could not hold on & Myles Brooks was on it in a flash to force over the line, within moments Dom Bryans’ piledriver flew inches wide from doubling that lead.
The Moseley RFC tenants thought they saw daylight when Callum Burston-Keeley lobbed over several bodies from the edge of the six-yard area, but Kinsey was adjudged to have infringed Shaun Reid trying to stand his ground in front of goal, a free kick awarded to those in yellow & black.
As the half wore on, the recent Birmingham FA Vase winners gained some initiative and hit the post, Shaheed Sam then played a one-two to create some space, after cutting back inside his attempt to curl into the far top corner didn’t quite bend in enough and sailed to safety.
The second period had barely begun when Hayden Froggatt forced Howe into a good save, followed by Alex Considine volleying wide from close range, but their endeavour was finally rewarded when a Burston-Keeley shot was pushed away, the ball then retrieved and rolled to Kinsey to thump home.
But the visitors were quickly back in the game, some impressive one touch movement ended with Graham giving them some hope; they missed a glorious opportunity to level in the final minute when a ball fizzed across the six-yard box invited Danyal Qureshi to attack but Froggatt beat him to it.
Still the chances came, both Alessandro Pierpoint & Sam fired over the top, at the opposite end of the pitch Burston-Keeley pressured a defender to concede possession, with Howe off his line he went for the lob but again cleared the bar. F/T: 2-1
