AFC Stoneham completed an incredible quadruple by lifting the FA Vase at Wembley back in May, defeating Cockfosters on penalties after the previous ninety plus minutes had failed to conjure up a goal between the two sides.
For the Hampshire outfit celebrations were extended long into the summer months after winning the Wessex Football League by fourteen points to secure promotion, the Hampshire FA Russell Cotes Benevolent Cup and the Southampton Senior Cup.
The Londoners were left feeling very dejected, preceding this disappointment was defeat in both Spartan South Midlands Premier Division cup finals that they’d reached, the play-off final for promotion up to step four, and also the divisional trophy.
Clear cut goal scoring chances were at a premium, ‘Fosters Kendall Gyamfi headed over early on and had another effort blocked inside the six-yard area as he fought to make things happen, for the team in purple Duarte Martins was thwarted by Jandir Da Cruz with a superb last gasp tackle.
Gyamfi had another opportunity to break the deadlock just past the half hour as he was fed through towards the target however a little too much pace allowed keeper Callum Lee to gather, and within moments of the second period commencing, he struck the crossbar as frustration started to grow.
Junior Mubiayi drove over the top & Tom Annetts followed suit after being set up by Tyrrell Sampson as the Londoners piled forward, at the opposing end Dan Millers shot was too high before a Martins header rebounded back off the woodwork.
Late chances for Owen Fee & Lewis Nagle went begging, meaning the first game of Non-League Finals Day would be settled from twelve yards; Callum Laycock took the initiative and fired the purples in front, but George Lutaaya levelled.
Jake Thomson scored the third and when teammate Lee saved Adam Hastings effort it was advantage Stoneham; Annetts & Tyrrell Sampson both hit the back of the net with Max Jessop in between converting to prolong the contest.
